Small cable companies want DOJ to reinvestigate Comcast’s merger with NBC

As more people cut the cord, companies are looking to come up with ways to address their changing requirements. A new report reveals that Comcast might be planning a streaming set-top box for its internet customers. The product will be offered to its broadband-only customers in the country, enabling them to aggregate apps like Netflix and Amazon as well. CNBC reports that the streaming set-top box will aggregate apps like YouTube, Netflix, and Amazon Prime with a voice-activated remote. The idea behind this product is obviously to make it easier for users to navigate between the multiple sources they use to stream content. It won’t really be a competitor to devices like the Apple TV since users won’t be able to access a wide variety of apps and standalone TV streaming services like DirecTV Now or Sling TV as they compete directly with Comcast’s own video bundle.The product may have an operating platform similar to the X1 and is expected to be launched next year.
