Hunting hawks hold clues to catching rogue drones

(University of Oxford) Hawks steer their pursuit of evasive prey using a feedback system that differs fundamentally from the missile-like interception system of falcons, according to a new study led by scientists at the University of Oxford, Department of Zoology, published today in Nature Communications. This mixed guidance law allows hawks to pursue agile prey through cluttered habitats without being thrown off the pursuit by the prey's erratic escape manoeuvres.
