Asian mussel confirmed on British beaches

First found in China, it has caused significant problems in other areas it has invaded. It can form dense mats of up to 1,500 mussels per square metre which can suffocate scallops and oysters.

An Asian mussel named after a British naval officer has found its way to Britain and is making itself at home on southern beaches, according to new research.
